6 driving safety tips to follow

After spending time on Pennsylvania’s roads, you know that driving is often a dangerous task. Unfortunately, even the best drivers can end up in sticky situations involving other people.

Despite the risks of driving, it is still a necessity in our modern world. Next time you hit the road, follow these six tips to help you stay safe.

1. Avoid distractions

While cell phone use is one of the most common driving distractions, it is not the only one. In addition to phone usage, you should avoid fiddling with the radio dial, console controls, food and anything else that requires you to take your eyes off the road.

2. Plan your route

Knowing where you are going ahead of time can help you avoid making last-second and potentially dangerous decisions while driving.

3. Stay calm and aware

The last thing Pennsylvania roads need is more road rage. Even when others lack courtesy, remain calm and stay your course.

Do not assume that other drivers are paying attention to the road as closely as you are. Watch out for erratic or otherwise negligent drivers so you can stay out of their path.

4. Secure loose items

Before heading out, secure loose cargo and make sure the things you need are within reach. Unrestrained objects in your vehicle can turn into dangerous projectiles in a collision.

5. Wear your seatbelt

It may sound cliché, but seatbelts do save lives. You and every passenger in your vehicle should wear one.

6. Drive sober

To keep your mind and defensive driving skills sharp, do not drive when after consuming alcohol or any medication that may make you drowsy.

No matter how careful you are, someone else’s negligence can still cause an accident, and you may need compensation to help you recover.
